My Ooni Volt 12 stone is getting too hot.Updated 7 months ago
If the stone in your Ooni Volt is getting too hot and overcooking the base of
your pizza, you can lower the temperature by turning the temperature dial
counterclockwise.

**Why is my stone hotter than the temperature I set the oven to?**
The temperature dial controls the ambient temperature, not specifically the
stone temperature. The stone is designed to conduct heat so it will naturally
go slightly hotter if your oven is running for some time without being cooked
on. For best results, always check the stone temperature with the [Ooni
Infrared Thermometer](https://ooni.com/products/ooni-ir-
thermometer?_pos=1&_sid=f2f970155&_ss=r) before launching your pizza. For a
Neapolitan-style pizza, aim for at least 750°F (400°C) on the middle of the
baking stone.
If you'd like to control the balance of temperature between the top and bottom
(stone) element, you can do this by adjusting the balance dial. Turn the
balance dial clockwise to focus the heat off of the stone and onto the top
element.
