I’m having trouble lighting my Ooni Karu 12 Gas Burner.Updated 7 months ago

Before following the steps below, please read the following safety advice:

* Always stand clear of your oven when igniting - ensure nobody is within 1 meter (3ft) of the front of the oven.

* Always allow 5-minute intervals between lighting attempts. This is to allow time for any gas to disperse.

* Always remove the fuel hatch and open the door when lighting the gas burner.

* Do not look directly over the fuel hatch when igniting the gas burner.

* Make sure to read through the safety manual for your region:

**Note:** this advice is for the [Ooni Karu 12 Gas

Burner](https://ooni.com/collections/gas-adaptors/products/ooni-gas-burner),

which is compatible with the Ooni Karu 12 and Ooni Karu 12G ovens.

If you're using the [Ooni 3 Gas Burner](https://ooni.com/collections/gas-

adaptors/products/ooni-3-gas-burner) with Ooni Karu 12 oven, read [this

article](https://ooni.kustomer.support/en_us/i'm-having-trouble-lighting-my-

ooni-gas-burner-\(compatible-with-both-ooni-3-and-ooni-karu-12\).-what-should-

i-do-S1ZreJKzj). The Ooni 3 Gas Burner cannot be used with the Ooni Karu 12G

oven

If you're having trouble lighting your Ooni Karu 12 Gas Burner, begin by

detaching your regulator from your propane tank. Wait 5 minutes, then

reconnect your regulator to your propane tank and re-light.

**If your gas burner isn 't lighting, run through the checklist below:**

* Make sure your gas burner is [set up correctly](https://ooni.kustomer.support/en_us/how-do-i-set-up-my-ooni-karu-12-with-the-gas-burner-r1VMeJtfi):

* The gas burner should be correctly fixed onto the oven

* The door should be **off **(In the Ooni Karu 12G, this can go on after lighting)

* The chimney should be **on**

* The chimney cap should be **removed**

* The chimney baffle should be fully** open**

* Make sure your propane tank is** full.**

* Make sure the connections to your propane tank and regulator are** secure.**

* Make sure there are no leaks in your gas hose by using a leak detector spray or by using soapy water (full instructions on how to do a gas leak test [here](https://ooni.kustomer.support/en_us/how-do-i-perform-a-gas-leak-test-BJdijR_zj)).

* Make sure you are only taking 5 seconds to turn the control dial and keeping the knob pushed in for a further 5 seconds after ignition.

**If you 've run through the checklist above and your gas burner still isn't

lighting:**

* **Detach your regulator from the propane tank and remove your gas burner from your oven. **

* Push in and turn the control dial until you hear a *click*. You should see a spark jump between the ignition tip and the front of the burner.

* If you cannot see a spark when you turn the control dial, please follow these two steps:

1. Use a dry cloth to clean the ignition tip to remove any residue built up.

2. Reposition the ignition tip. Make sure that it is 3mm away and positioned closely so that it can 'contact' a metal part of the burner like so:

If your oven isn't lighting but you can hear gas flowing, you can use the

provided matchstick holder to manually light your gas burner in the meantime.

Do not attempt to manually light the gas burner without the use of the

matchstick holder.
