below:
**Step 1.** Before using it for the first time, clean your Ooni Pizza Steel
with light soapy water and then wipe it dry with a paper towel or rag.
**Step 2.** Place the steel on a wire shelf in the middle of your domestic
oven. Preheat the oven to top temperatures (up to 275 °C / 527 °F, or the
'pizza setting' where applicable) for at least 30 minutes.
* Tip: a longer preheat time will result in a crispier base and more colour on the crusts.
**Step 3.** Once you've preheated for the desired amount of time, launch your
prepared pizza into the oven using a [pizza
peel](https://ooni.com/collections/pizza-peels) and then close the oven door.
* Tip: You can use an [infrared thermometer](https://ooni.com/products/ooni-ir-thermometer?_pos=1&_sid=f4c449023&_ss=r) to get an exact measurement of the steel's temperature.

**Step 4.** After 5 to 7 minutes, your pizza should be fully cooked. Use a
metal peel to retrieve your pizza from the oven. Slice up and enjoy!
Make sure you leave the steel in the oven for at least 2 hours to cool down
