The flame in my Ooni Karu 12 Gas Burner is cutting out.Updated 7 months ago
**Before following the steps below, please read the following safety advice:**
* Always stand clear of your oven when igniting - ensure nobody is within 1 metre (3ft) of the front of the oven.
* Always allow 5-minute intervals between lighting attempts. This is to allow time for any gas to disperse.
* Always remove the fuel hatch and open the door when lighting the gas burner.
* Do not look directly over the fuel hatch when igniting the gas burner.
* Make sure to read through the safety manual for your region:

**Note: **this advice is for the [Ooni Karu 12 Gas
Burner](https://ooni.com/collections/gas-adaptors/products/ooni-gas-burner),
which is compatible with the Ooni Karu 12 and Ooni Karu 12G ovens.
If you're using the [Ooni 3 Gas Burner](https://ooni.com/collections/gas-
adaptors/products/ooni-3-gas-burner) with Ooni Karu 12 oven, read [this
article](https://intercom.help/ooni/en/articles/6145322-the-flame-in-my-ooni-
gas-burner-is-cutting-out-what-should-i-do). The Ooni 3 Gas Burner cannot be
used with the Ooni Karu 12G oven.
If the flame cuts out after you release the control dial on your Ooni Karu 12
Gas Burner, there may be an issue with your oven's 'Flame Safety Device
(FSD)'. This inbuilt safety feature cuts off the gas if the thermocouple isn't
reading a high enough temperature.
Before proceeding with troubleshooting, please ensure that your Ooni Karu 12
Gas Burner is [set up correctly](https://ooni.kustomer.support/en_us/how-do-i-
set-up-my-ooni-karu-12-with-the-gas-burner-r1VMeJtfi):
**Step 1: Check Setup**
* The gas burner should be correctly fixed onto the oven
* The door should be **off **(W**ith the Ooni Karu 12G oven, the door can be closed once the gas burner is lit)**
* The chimney should be **on**
* The chimney cap should be **removed**
* The chimney baffle should be fully** open**
* Make sure your propane tank is **full.**
* Make sure the connections to your propane tank and regulator are secure.
* Make sure there are no leaks in your gas hose by using a leak detector spray or by using soapy water (full instructions on how to do a gas leak test [here](https://support.ooni.com/en_us/how-do-i-perform-a-gas-leak-test-BJdijR_zj)).
* Make sure you are only taking 5 seconds to turn the control dial and keeping the knob pushed in for a further 5 seconds after ignition.
**If your setup is correct and the problem persists, proceed to Step 2.**
**Step 2: Clean Thermocouple**
* When completely cool, remove your gas burner from the oven and wipe down the thermocouple.
* Attach it back into your oven, check your setup in accordance with the steps in the user manual, and light the gas burner as normal.

**If step 2 has not helped, proceed to step 3.**
**Step 3: Tighten the FSD bolt:**
Follow the instructions in this article: [How to tighten the FSD bolt for Ooni
Karu 12 Gas Burner](https://support.ooni.com/en_us/how-to-tighten-the-fsd-
bolt-for-ooni-karu-12-gas-burner-r1cPmZSN6)
**Step 4: Region Specific**
If you live in the **USA** or **Canada** and Step 4 hasn't worked, proceed to
Step 5. If you live **outside** the **USA **or **Canada** , proceed to Step
6.
**Step 5: Check Surge Protection**
Check to make sure your regulator hasn't had its surge protection triggered.
1. Turn your gas burner to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the regulator from the propane tank.
3. Reconnect the regulator and ensure it's fitting tightly.
4. Slowly open up the gas flow at the propane tank about halfway until you can hear gas. Don't open this up fully yet.
5. Return to your oven. Push in and very slowly turn the control knob until you can hear gas flowing. Wait 5 seconds more before you fully turn to hear the *click* of ignition.
6. Keep the control dial pushed in for 20 more seconds.
7. If this fails, turn the gas burner back to the OFF position and wait 5 minutes before trying again.
8. If this works, return to your propane tank and open up the gas flow fully.
