Do I need to season my Ooni cast iron before using it for the first time?Updated 7 months ago
Your cast iron will have been pre-seasoned during the manufacturing process
with rapeseed and maize oil. However, we do recommend you re-season it
yourself before using it for the first time.
To season your cast iron, follow the steps below:
**Step 1**. Hand wash your pan with warm soapy water and a sponge.
**Step 2.** Dry thoroughly with a paper towel or cloth.
**Step 3.** Rub a thin layer of oil onto the surface - use vegetable, canola
or flaxseed oil.
**Step 4.** Preheat your kitchen oven to 400F (205C).
**Step 5.** Place your cast iron upside down in your oven (place a tray at the
bottom to catch drips).
**Step 6**. Bake your cast iron for one hour, then leave to cool in the oven.
